What I will do

What implications that will take place since getting this feedback is I will be adding in intense music during the chase scene, fast pace music and this will mean the audience will feel the tension from what is happening in the scene. Another change I will be making Is that I will be keeping the last image of Kevin as a close up, on the screen for a little longer. This is so that the audience can really resonate with it and feel more impacted by it. One comment said to make the music louder so I have done that already as a simple start to all the changes I will be making 

After effects

 Lumetri Colour 

I would want to use this during the scene where Carol is murdered and this is to increase the colour saturation especially on the blood so that it can easily contrast with the scene that takes place right after which is dark-based, with shadows and low lights. This would make the mood change faster, meaning the audience will feel almost a heart drop.

Motion blue

This I want to use for when the logo is shown so that it adds instead of the video being more choppy with the logo. The motion blue would make the logo being shown look more casual instead of being a whole separate thing.

during the scene where Kevin looks at himself in the mirror, this would add to the mood of it and make it seem more intense and glum.

Opening Sequences

–What is the purpose of Opening Sequences?

      The purpose of an opening sequence is to set the mood/atmosphere of the movie that will play. The very basic purpose of the opening sequence is to play out/ give the necessary credits. In many opening sequences, the film makers add key information as part of the story line, perhaps backstory or setting the theme, giving some context for the film. This attracts the attention of the audience and gets them to be more curious about what that is shown may lead to. 

–What is the difference between Opening Credits and a Title Sequence?

       The opening credits are generally played out during the title sequence. The opening credits are showing the names of the directors, key cast members, producers and studios. The are usually played over a title sequence which is a series of shots generally with significant meaning in the film. These shots are used to help showcase the credits. Here the producers will really take advantage of the way sound and tone affects both the audience and the mood of the setting for the film initially.  

–What techniques can be employed in an opening sequence?

       A technique used in opening sequences is, movie poster inspired typography. This is where the titles rolling are flashed on screen in a font that is similar to what would be shown in a movie poster. The flashes of words captivates the audience and forces them to stay with their eyes on the screen as one missed second is causing a huge miss in what is said. Another. technique used during the opening sequence is CGI, many film companiees have CGI created motion pictures to grab the interest of the audience. The CGI created motion picture usually is an image or symbol of something that will be important to note in the film, for example a batman symbol, this is a very basic example and this being shown on screen instantly lets the audience know what to expect. 

–Research a modern Thriller and a Hitchcock film of your choice to use as examples.

      The modern thriller of choice is the film gone girl and the Hitchcock film i will be writing about is virtigo

–Demonstrate how both films achieve the purpose of the Opening Sequence, and contrast their techniques 

       In Gone girls opening sequence they open by showing their movie companys logo with their iconic soundtrack. The recognisability of the sound track of the 21 first century fox logo play out, is part of the reason why the opening scene is so important, people pay more attention to what they are familiar with and so this means people are more likely to be more emotionally involved in this film. The production companys title introduction for Vertigo is in black and white, this reflects the age of the film and the time it was made. The logo is still but fades in, there is no dramatic draw in for the audience, no intense CGI to keep it extravagant, just simply the logo alone. This is because around the time this film was made, there were not the right tools available to be able to create a title sequence like in the modern thriller. In the Hitchcock film, the camera is brought in for a close up shot of the characters face, this brings the audience in to the world of the film, bringing the audience into the personal space of the girl. Having this in the opening sequence is important as it is captivating and this technique of having a close up showcase the facial expressions of the character, increases the overall engagement as well. Gone girl opens up with a voice over playing out the voice in the husbands head, as her admires his wife, this brings the audience into the mind of the character, in contrast with Veritgo which brings us physically into the personal space of the character, both very intimate, in order to grasp the audiences attention. In 'gone girl' the intro is thought to be romantic, which is a play on plot considering the whole basis of their relationship comes into play later on in the movie, this also gives the audience a view of what their relationship looks like before all the chaos begins. Veritgo continues with graphics and hypnotic sort of motion pictures, whereas Gone girl focuses on showing the audience the setting, the environment the characters live in. 

Preliminary Task 1: Treatment

 

Character Names: 

Mark and Lisa  are the names of the main characters and the reason these names are chosen is because in multiple movies there is a narrative surrounded around a person named Mark, the name is generally associated with someone mysterious and of odd nature. Lisa is a name associated with just the average girl, someone who is innocent and could do no wrong, so we chose these names to associate with the antagonist and protagonist of the story. 

Narrative:

The narrative is about a stalker and it was chosen to be this way because there are a lot of opportunities for different film techniques and representations. We chose to have the film about a stalker that is just like any other student at first sight, he is seen as a fellow student just there to do his work, get his grades, go home and repeat. However slowly but surely his true intentions and motives are shown in unsettling ways. All meanwhile Lisa stayed as the innocent girl. 

Symbolism:

Symbolism- In this film we are going to have Mark own a red backpack and this is because generally red symbolises danger and something or someone to be cautious of. Mark is not someone Lisa should befriend as he is a threat to her, the red on his backpack tells the audience he is not a good guy, well before Lisa even picks up on it. Another use of symbolism would be in the mirror scenes. A mirror represents the way you see yourself, its your reflection, a reflection of both your inwards and outward appearance, exposing emotions through facial expressions. When Mark looks at himself in the mirror he is hit with the realisation that he is really going to pull through with something like this.

Editing:

With the editing there is going to be a montage and this is so that the viewers can see that over the course of time Marks grades are getting consistently worse and it shows us that in the small time frame. This is so that the audience can get the bigger picture without having to sit through hours of footage of Mark waiting and receiving his grades. Another technique used will be cutaways which are used to add a more dramatic and intense effect. 

Talent:

Kevin- the reason Kevin Harris  was chosen to be Mark was because he has the mischievous look that is required to play this role. He would be able to play the role more easily as he naturally has a resting serious face so it wouldn’t look forced. His ‘average Joe’ appearance makes for a great candidate to later turn out to be insane. 

Lisa- Lisa will be played by Eshloe Roberts, Eshloe would be a great fit for this role as she by nature is hardworking and grade driven, this will be easily portrayed on screen. It is much easier to convey the emotions the character needs to be playing having when the person playing the character carries some of the traits as these are not proper actors, being able to play complete characters of intricacy.
